With Artemis II approaching I know a lot of news outlets are starting to look for in depth photos and knowledge of this mission.

I have a significant backlog of photos already available from the Artemis Program and will be on site covering the mission in the lead up to the launch in February.

SpaceX has released some details on the Starship Flight 9 failure and Ship 36 explosion.

Another fuel leak in the ship resulted in the loss of Flight 9.

Ship 36 was destroyed due to a COPV failure likely from mishandling prior to or during installation.

I think perhaps the most horrifying part in all of this is I think he is less of a threat to NASA than Janet Petro has been.

Petro has so far attempted to be a cataclysmic leader for NASA, pushing to cut missions and staff at NASA before Congress actually cuts anything.

Congress has also been growing wary of her decision making, with her directly stating she supports the president's budget in all of her decision, some have taken that as her ignoring Congress, which authorizes and directs NASA activities, for the executive office.

The scale of the damage from last nights explosion is still wild.

Methane+LOX is an extremely potent explosive when something goes wrong, and this was with <20% of the methane loaded onto the ship. A low to ground failure of a fully loaded methane rocket is going to be a massive event.

More than 10 years of development and 40+ prototype vehicles and now 4 vehicle failures in a row.

If SpaceX wants to succeed with Starship, it is time to take a step back, reevaluate the program top to bottom, and find real fixed instead of bandaids.

However before that flies, ULA is expecting to fly another Atlas V Kuiper mission and a pair of Vulcan rockets for the Department of Defense.

This year for the company is focused on ramping up launch cadence, with ULA targeting being able to fly every 10-14 days by the end of the year.
