Another John Peel estate auction came and went this week. One lot of note was his copy of Fall In A Hole, the legendary live album released on Flying Nun that fundamentally changed the label, both crippling it in the short term and helping to propel it to new ears around the world in the long term.

Testing driving the new archival release on Flying Acorn (Flying Nut???)… 🧐

Big auction from the John Peel collection ended today. I had dreams of bidding on two copies of The Chills' Kaleidoscope World comp, but bidding got out of my comfort zone. Here's the test pressing that was up for grabs. Interesting notes from Peel, where 'Satin Doll' is the only track with 3 stars.

Excited to have nabbed these Sun City Girls gig posters from a random poster sale on marketplace. One on the right is likely from 1990, left 1991.

The vintage band t-shirt market is peak side hustle absurdity for me. That said, there's been a few pop up recently where if money was no object I'd have to consider hammering that 'buy it now' button.

A shameless holiday sales pitch, but i've been on strike with my day job for over three weeks so I have time and dwindling cash.

I will be in the US next week so anyone interested in the NZ special edition of Needles and Plastic for a holiday gift please DM me.

$55 postage paid. DM for details.

Bygone Era, featuring future Chills drummer James Stephenson. On the flipside, The Warners later released an album on Flying Nun that I own but admittedly
may have never listened to.

Adding to my last post. While digging around the NZ newspapers for Jesus and Mary Chain stuff I also stumbled on this news item from June 1985. The old hands at the pressing plant getting bent out of shape over JAMC [ 'Jesus Suck' huh???].

It's the 40th Anniversary of the Jesus and Mary Chain's debut single 'Upside Down', so time to point out that it was almost a release on Flying Nun as part of a trade with Creation for The Chills' Kaleidoscope World comp. Alas, the JAMC part of the deal never happened.

Seems appropriate that this arrived today. I’ve been thinking a lot about HRK this week. Well done to Leather Jacket Records to get this out into the world

Another Fairfax photo archive auction has been posted online. Lots of music shots, but very few of interest except these Screaming Mee Mees shots.

First post on this new thing. Over on IG I've written a brief history of Hamish Kilgour's short lived band Twin Guitar Orchestra with Ross Humphries.

They played under a few different names in mid-1985 and opened the Zetland Tavern alongside Say Yes To Apes. Go to my IG for the full story.
