So yeah, updates are cool, yet the community (at least parts of it) may not always appreciate new directions. Some people play old games specifically because everything is rigid, old and not changing.

The paper itself (like a lot of media papers from US) was very politicized, but I found the term neat regardless. Once you learn about it, you start seeing it everywhere: people play beta 1.7 Minecraft, host WoW 3.3.5a servers. Even I am an alt-fan when it comes to Assassin's Creed!

At the same time, when you change systems that are set in stone it will cause a shitstorm within the community. Reminds me of a paper I read a while back about TLoU reddit after Part 2 came out. It introduced me to the term alt-fan: a person, who believes that their vision was betrayed by the devs.

I personally dislike re-makes/-masters as a whole, but yeah, games with competitive communities do tend to require an occasional refresh. I still fondly remember how crazy everyone went about Dota reborn and later patch 7.00.

That video was so big, that the channel almost got 100k subs from it alone. Crazy shit

I remember some years ago hearing a guy say on some podcast that the political situation felt like we were in the middle of a book when everything goes down and we will reach the conclusion eventually. Looking back at it now, it seems like it turned into a messed up franchise with no end in sight.

Hard to tell, what kinda lessons I'm gonna get out of this one, as I kust finished it. Gonna let it simmer in the back of my mind for a while, revisit it a couple times and then I'll see where to go next. Until then, let's hope that 2027 will be even cooler.

2023: I still have mixed feelings about this one: I love the expression and lines, but there were so many mistakes that I just didn't bother to fix in my rush to finish it. Terrible background monster, messed up line art on the lantern, nonsensical shadows. I needed to be more patient.

2021 was exactly it: nice colour contrasts, distinct shapes. One thing it seemed to lack was interesting line art and rendering, which is what I proceeded to work on.

2019 was a very important year for my art, as I started paying more attention to basics (Many thanks to Jazza's tutorials and booklets). If there was one lesson I've learnt from the first remake is that I need to develop a better understanding of shapes and colours.

2017: I didn't think that I would be remaking this piece every two years back when I drew it, and honestly, I don't even remember how it started.

Just to be clear: I have nothing against this way of advertising, especially as Ross seemingly didn't plan that video to be such but somewhat of a post mortem. I find it extremely funny, that PS swore that he'll destroy this movement but in the end became the main reason people have learned of it.
