I think the basic interpretation is that space time is not the fundamental layer or structure at the very bottom of reality. Quantum physics has basically proven this as well…and there’s a need to return to the mythic or to start to value it again as much as the rational.

I hope you found value here. I’m creating this as much for me and my friends as anyone else and I’m doing it here because while very imperfect, it’s one place I can bundle a bunch of things on some topic that’s meaningful to me and that I can also distribute more widely.

Having a guide(s) is a good idea, like those above, a therapist etc but a whole other, and maybe the most important, world awaits you on the other side.

Finally.. Poetic view - Not directly related to this topic but more to the broader idea that to travel inward is to discover a whole landscape of knowing and being that is at your disposal if you are willing to work at it...

Psychological view - This book may be the best single entry point into understanding the Jungian framework. It covers the idea of complexes but so much more and thru multiple readings, you'll get more and more from this book.

theres obviously 6 episodes before this but this gets into the polylogical (as opposed to monological) aspects of our being…if you can suspend the “aporia” i.e. confusion of being, for the first 10 minutes or so, you’ll hear from gold thereafter.

Therapeutic view - An incredible discussion about the Internal Family Systems modality, inc a critique of Jung & his concept of complexes & its relation to IFS. It’s looks at the efficacy of the this approach even if the “why?” it works is less clear.

Scientific view - Here is a good more science based introduction and discussion about this idea. It is not the scope of the entire discussion but this concept kind of anchors a lot of what @jordanbpeterson.com.web.brid.gy and dr david eagleman talk about...

Jung’s ideas have roots in Plato, Socrates, modern IFS therapy, and as I said are supported by more recent neuroscience and a lot more in between. As such, here are some great resources for getting more familiar with these ideas and concepts…

But of course it is not just Jung’s that held this model. His works have deep philosophical & religious connections & are increasingly deeply supported by modern neuroscience, & its application can have some very practical & profound effects on someone’s life.

His expression of this “truth” can first be found in his idea of complexes but it goes all the way down to his concepts of archetypes…

Well there is no one source of truth or wisdom but for me Jung has created one of the best heuristics for understanding the human psyche, the ego, people in general, the role of the divine and other very non-trivial topics.

In fact even if you are forewarned, you will still have to pay the piper, but at least you have a fighting chance to do so in a way that doesn’t cause you or others harm.
How did I happen on such wisdom?
February 25, 2025 at 10:06 PM
Lacking this awareness means you will continue to fall prey to those parts of yourself that you deny. As Prof John Vervaeke says, “Wisdom is not optional”, so even if you achieve great things, you and those you love, may well pay a great price for what you achieve.

with different agendas, values, goals etc, often (and by design) in competition with each other. While integration and individuation (a Jungian term) is a fundamental life goal, a mere dawning awareness of this fact can have a profound impact on our daily lives.

So what is this truth I speak of? It is the fact that we are all inherently relational and multi aspectual beings. Yes of course we are or need to be relational with others BUT ALSO WITH OURSELVES. What does that mean?

This is a thread & bundle of links, looking into one of these universals. See below for variations on this idea by Socrates, Jung, IFS therapists, Stanford Neuroscientists and more…

Having not read the piece yet, a favorite saying of mine these days, borrowed from Vervaeke is that “wisdom is not optional”. You either consciously participate in the “game” or you are at the mercy of it. So yeah. Add wisdom to the list of things we can’t delegate.

This doesn’t seem so pessimistic to me. Balancing tradition or conservation with progressivism seems like the right struggle & opposition of forces necessary & relevant to a vital life. Seems a little reductive to say conservatism is just an easier way to live. The opposite may ultimately be true
