Found an adorably grumpy lil green hero on a pond. Added the heron statues from the other side of the pond.
A green heron stares grumpily over the water. It stands on the verge of a stone retaining wall, in front of tall grass and partially sheltered by a shrub with pink flowers. It has curiously short legs for a heron, but a search reveals that's just how they are. Its wing plumage is greenish gray and cream, picking out stripes and diamonds in the primary wing feathers. The chest and neck are a rich brown with cream stripes centered down the midline. A sleek cap of blackish brown feathers blends with its long black beak. At first it appears to have a bright vibrant crest, but it's just a pink flower (rose?) deep in the overhanging branches. The gently rippled water reflects the sky, foliage, wall and plumage in wavy refracted delight. Offscreen to the left is a nesting canadian goose. I'm uncertain if they are friends sitting in companionable silence and the heron is serving as lookout, or if they're studiously ignoring each other on this tiny island haven on a manmade pond. grumpkins! The cream markings down the chest reveal this is a first summer, male green herons, apparently waiting for fish. I wonder if they stock fish in this pond manmade, circulated water pond or if he waits in vain. Green herons are curiously short legged and squat for a heron. Ironically, there are long-legged, long-necked heron (or crane) statues behind him on the other side of the pond; forever wading and fishing, long necks curving to the sky.
