There is nothing more powerful than an effective organizing conversation! Get more tips and tools at nea.org/joinconvo.
September 8, 2025 at 9:16 PM
Tip #7: The follow up can be as important (if not more important) than the conversation itself! Coming back to the person with relevant information and updates shows them you were listening and care about their concerns.
September 8, 2025 at 9:16 PM
Tip #6: Don't try to control the conversation. Let the person you are speaking to lead the way and then let them know how the union can help them address their priority issues.
September 8, 2025 at 9:16 PM
Tip #5: Ask open-ended questions. This is an easy way to get the other person talking about themselves and what they care about.
September 8, 2025 at 9:16 PM
Tip #4: Be a good listener. This isn't a sales pitch, it is a time to build a relationship around shared concerns and goals. We should learn from each and every person we speak to!
September 8, 2025 at 9:16 PM
Tip #3: Make sure you talk about the power of collective action! Joining a union is about more than transactional benefits. It's about what we can achieve when we come together.
September 8, 2025 at 9:16 PM
Tip #2: Be prepared! You won't know the answer to every question, but you can plan ahead so that you are able to address common concerns.
September 8, 2025 at 9:16 PM
Tip #1: Effective organizing conversations are based in authentic, honest connection. Affirm and answer any questions or concerns before you redirect to your stated goal.
