Overstate the benefits. Understate the costs. Fail to understand the complexity of a major project of this nature. UK’s approach to all major infrastructure. We need a non-political , joined up, suitably-skilled infrastructure body that takes a much longer term of what this country actually needs.

They do have to look after the public purse but these payments are not compensation. They are repaying what was stolen from postmasters and postmistresses by the Post Office.

Is cutting overseas aid something of a politically expedient move by PM in readiness for when taxes inevitably have to rise to fund future defence spending. Raising taxes while continuing to spend on OA would hand Reform et al weeks of Mail & Telegraph front page headlines.

The take from 5% VAT on energy bills has risen proportionally as energy costs have risen. The rate could be adjusted as energy prices fluctuate which would be some help to consumers while the £s raised could remain the same.

Ofgem seems to have confused its role with Energy UK, the trade association for energy companies. Who represents us, the consumer? It’s certainly not Ofgem. Not fit for purpose.
