Excited to vote for my head of state today for the first time (was away from Ireland for last few Presidential elections). I do miss #dogsatpollingstations which fills feeds on NZ election day due to the strict media moratorium there. Pic of my best boy Dexter (RIP) on GE '23 #aras25#speirgorm

[strictly personal views]. A challenging recruitment target. In comparison, NZ (with difficulty) delivered 1800 uplift over 5 yrs. Potential for localised training - increased accessibility promotes diversity. Modern policing requires skills such as data science which need a graduate pathway.

Sunrise over day 5 of #sneachta. Totally frozen in - we should get out tomorrow. Neighbour on tractor has been delivering essentials. Very thankful our power has stayed on. #speirgorm

Closed the work year with a wonderful group of global fellows at Salzburg Global. Now watching the sun go down on the shortest day of the year in Ireland. Brighter days ahead! Merry Christmas/ Happy holidays to all my Bluesky friends.

Moving journal of the county high points project from the other place. 11/32. Cork! Knockboy. 706vm. With tired legs after the Tour de Beara cycle on Sat, we set out up the quite exciting drive to Priest's Leap. Route v boggy, immediate wet feet. Fog eventually cleared for view of Bantry Bay.

Today is for Criminal Law teaching prep, and reflecting I haven't taught undergrad in person since 2018! Few reasons : pandemic, the parliamentary protests '22 and time in public sector. Also remembering that Irish students mostly fresh from secondary school. Looking forward to meeting them in Sept!
