Just been to my local gym to enquire about if they have changed their rules around the changing rooms. This is what they got back to me with. I've since given them a follow up email asking if trans people are able to access the single sex spaces. I think they've tried to tailor their language here.
Email from my local gym regarding their changing room policy for trans people. It states: Hi Lily, I've been sent your email from ---- who you were talking with the other day. After getting some advice on this, when you and the other students come in to use the centre you can use our gender-neutral changing rooms and toilets. Our general neutral changing rooms are our westside changing rooms as we have individual changing cubicles and showers and our general neutral toilets are our accessible toilets. If you need a tour of the centre, then a member of the team will be willing to show you around. If you have any other questions on this, please email me. Regards

My Tory MP's rubbish response to the supreme court ruling. This is from Greg Stafford MP btw, who voted FOR the data amendment in parliament yesterday.

He also says that the "Supreme Court’s Ruling is beyond the control of parliamentary legislation"

I strongly believe that everyone in the UK should be able to live with dignity and fulfil their potential, regardless of their sex or gender identity. I believe education plays a key role in creating a more inclusive society - one where people are treated with respect, and harmful misconceptions are challenged early on. I appreciate you sharing your personal experience so honestly. I understand that, as a transgender woman, this ruling and the uncertainty it has created at your university and in wider society will be unsettling. I’m sorry to hear you and others have faced more open discrimination in recent days - no one should be made to feel unsafe or unwelcome. If this is the case, please do reach out to your University Wellbeing team. The Supreme Court has unanimously ruled that the legal definition of a woman is based on biological sex, concluding that the ‘concept of sex is binary.’ This comes after Nicola Sturgeon’s Scottish Government had argued that transgender people with a gender recognition certificate should be afforded the same sex-based protections as biological women. Intersex people are born with physical sex characteristics that do not fit typical definitions of male or female bodies. Estimates of how many people this affects vary considerably, depending on the definitions used. Some clinical studies suggest that intersex traits that are apparent at birth, such as atypical genitalia, occur in around 1 in 4,500 to 1 in 300 births. Broader estimates - which include variations that may not be externally visible or apparent until later in life - suggest that up to 1.7% of the population may be affected. This wide range highlights the need for greater understanding about the nature and impact of intersex variations, both medically and socially.
