Here to breakdown, discuss, and cover all things New England Patriots and NFL.
What does this even mean?

The bad playoff record was also under different coaches.

Solid longtime coaches tend to get more of a leash and the AFC West is nothing but those. While the NFC west has two solid coaches and two relatively unknowns.

To start 3 AFC West teams just made the playoffs and outside of potential retirements I don’t see any changes.

Only 1 NFC west team made the playoffs and if the other 3 teams continue to be average or worse (over the next 2 to 3 seasons) they’ll make coaching changes.

That’s a fair point but doesn’t negate anything about Carroll being 73 (74 right before the season starts).

The only way I could see him coaching past 80 is if they had a franchise QB he stays around for.

That may be true but I doubt they find the franchise QB this year. If they find him next year that only gives you 4 years to truly develop him.

I also don’t think Carroll will coach till he’s almost 80, so the 4-5 year window is the best case scenario.

The biggest issue is Pete is 73.

Even if Vegas finds their QB, it’s hard to imagine Pete will be tied to him for long.

In 5 years I could see more AFC West coaches still in their jobs than NFC West ones.

He’ll be the oldest coach in the league by a few years.

At best it’s a few season bandaid, and at worst a one year experiment.

Great hire! Excited to see how the defense plays next year.

100%, also need a top tier WR.

He may not be the most exciting OC, but it’s hard to argue with his results in New England.

I personally like pairing Maye with McDaniels and what he brings to the table.

Off ranks for McDaniel led offenses without Brady.

2008
QB: Cassel
Pts - 8th
Yds - 5th

2020
QB: Newton
Pts - 27th
Yds - 27th
Rush Yds - 4th
Rush Avg - 8th

2021
QB: Jones
Pts - 6th
Yds - 15th
Rush Yds - 8th

Not exactly Hackett levels of bad. He calls plays that fit the personell’s strengths.

This is the opposite of wasting his rookie contract.

Kraft realized what was in the building wasn’t going to work so he went back to a style that did.
January 21, 2025 at 11:09 PM
Sometimes the only way forward is to go back.

It feels like Kraft realizes he needed coaching experience, and a bit of the old culture back in the building.
January 21, 2025 at 11:06 PM
I mean he was pretty solid as an OC, just not as a HC.
January 21, 2025 at 11:03 PM
I don’t hate this hire, it’s never a bad idea to pair a young QB with an experienced OC.

Especially one who knows New England better than any other.
