It was wonderful to see the Washed Ashore exhibit at the Oregon Coast Aquarium this weekend - massive sculptures made from plastic items that washed up on Oregon's beaches. Loved it, but I hope to live in a world some day where this art is impossible due to lack of materials.

In which I, a person who trained over 1,500 early career scientists all over the world in how to use Twitter, tell the scientific community that Twitter sucks now and you should use Bluesky for networking and outreach instead.
New paper!

Social media for fisheries science and management professionals: How to use Bluesky and Instagram, and why you should.

This is the *first* paper in the peer reviewed scientific literature to explain how Bluesky works and how to use it for #SciComm 🧪🦑🐠

Protested today. Great turnout in the rain. Does it matter, to show up to stuff like this? Absolutely. Imagine the alternative -- the horrors of the current executive branch and NO ONE showing up. It DOES matter.

Very glad but did note that one article about this referred to “tens of thousands” of employees whereas the fork memo ‘em went to millions. Unclear what that means - only relevant for union members maybe?

In honor of my many educator friends and relations, today my calls to Washington focused on protecting the Dept of Education. You?

Anyone else tried to call their senators' Washington offices today? I'm getting voicemail but very garbled outgoing message and not sure if it's them, me, or Elon messing with senate voicemail systems (I'm half-joking about that one).

Great way to start the morning, first day back after the holiday weekend: Arriving at the office, taking stuff out of my backpack to discover all of it was covered with mushed rotten banana. Guess I was too busy to eat that banana I brought to work a week ago.
