Cyc has an inference engine that performs general logical deduction. Might be worth a blurb. It falls into AI, cognitive science, ontology, KR buckets.

I dunno about links, or causes -- I'm an armchair dismal scientist right? -- but concentration of capital distorts the market's ability to innovate. Borrowing from wikipedia: innovation "depends on the political and societal context in which innovation is taking place". Too little diversity is bad.

At a public policy level I think we are failing to create sufficient social support for creative destruction (Schumpeter). It still happens naturally, but it sjeems to be through trauma. I am not an economist, but it seems like we could do this better. You might enjoy www.caninnovate.ca.

I read "Information Doesn't Want to Be Free" recently. It covers reasons why things are getting shittier with media services in particular. Quick read. Available as an audio CD on Spotify. I recommend it. I think there is thematic overlap with the industry in general, not specific to media.

I think it depends on the people; the often mutually exclusive goals they're trying to achieve; taxes and subsidies (carrots and sticks). Plectics.
