Platner went to the United States Marine Corps School of Infantry and deployed to Iraq in 2005. “It was a relatively calm deployment for the first few months, mostly because the Battle of Fallujah just happened, and much of the insurgent activity in the area had been crushed in that fight,” he told me. Later, while he was on patrol at Abu Ghraib, there was an attack on the prison. (It was nearly two years after human-rights abuses were first reported at the prison; Platner was not involved.) “That was my first real taste of combat,” he said. It was an odd juxtaposition discussing Platner’s experiences in the Iraq War while looking out at the islands on Frenchman Bay. “I loved infantry combat,” he said. “It was like this kind of high-stakes game where everything you do matters and you need to make decisions under immense amounts of stress that are going to impact both your life, but more importantly, the lives of your men.”

Honey, no. You just don't understand supply chains or the modern economy *at scale*. You also (as is so common to your ilk) limit your "ethics" to nonhuman animals being eaten in an attempt to shield yourself from the human cost of your consumption.

Series of old tweets from a previous argument with a yt vegan. They read:

I know you're struggling with being aware of the world outside of your experience, but your friend what owns a farm doesn't provide all the produce in the world. The vast, vast majority of fruits and vegetables are planted and harvested by exploited
people.

Specifically, most produce in the US comes either from literal plantations in the global south, or from massive corporate farms in the US where the planting and harvesting is done by migrant workers
who are paid next to nothing.

In both cases, the safety and recompense of these laborers are a non-priority behind the twin goals of profit for shareholders and low price-points for consumers like yourself.

In both cases, the actual human beings doing the work to make your vegan lifestyle possible, suffer and die for your convenience
