Today SCOTUS did the right thing by denying review of a case that sought to challenge the freedom to marry for same-sex couples. It’s a major relief for so many in the LGBTQ+ community, who have seen relentless attacks on their dignity and equality in recent years.

Did you know this about SNAP ( the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program)?
SNAP helps approximately 42 million people put food on their tables. Based on a program created during the Great Depression as a way to solve the twin problems of agricultural over-production & widespread hunger & malnutrition, the Food Stamp program, which eventually became SNAP, was a federally funded initiative that allowed people to use their benefits to purchase food from local groceries, which had the additional benefit of strengthening local economies in poor & working class communities. SNAP: Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program SNAP has improved nutrition and health outcomes for people who utilize these benefits exponentially. It is a vital lifeline helping individuals and families to escape poverty. The people who count on SNAP benefits - the working class, the elderly and people with disabilities, almost two thirds of whom are families with children - will go hungry without these benefits.

Ways to protect your community from ICE: Distribute “Know Your Right” cards Organize to deliver food to people afraid to leave their houses because of ICE Join your local ICE watch patrol or organize one if one doesn’t exist in your area. Make & share art in person & on socials Learn how to identify ICE vehicles and save the rapid response number to your phone. Attend trainings, meetings, and rallies. Follow organizations and collaboratives on social media who are doing on-the-ground work. And of course, mama. 🩷 Miss Major Griffin-Gracy centered transgender people of color throughout her life's work by creating space and stepping in as a mother figure to many.
Miss Major Griffin-Gracy Miss Major was known as mother for a reason. She spent more than 50 years in service to our community, creating spaces of safety and support. Her work especially focused transgender people of color, those living with HIV/AIDS, and her incarcerated “gurls.” She created the house of gg - a haven for trans people of color in the south.
