Even when the government shutdown ends, much work remains to fix America’s broken food benefits landscape. NCLEJ is the national leader in SNAP litigation, and we are continuing our fight to expand access to the food benefits low-income people need to survive and thrive.

If you’ve been upset that people have been denied SNAP benefits during the government shutdown, you should continue to be upset because state agencies have illegally denied benefits to low-income people for years.

When the shutdown ends and funding gets back to normal, much work remains to dismantle illegal barriers to access. Our lawsuit will ensure that low-income Missourians get access to the food benefits they need and are legally entitled to receive.

The John Dewitt Gregory Racial Justice Fund will help secure much-needed relief from racist policies and practices and will seek to increase political power for the marginalized.

This is a completely avoidable crisis caused by the Trump administration – the USDA must disperse its SNAP contingency funding to prevent a dramatic rise in food insecurity.
