Kennedy Jr announced the termination of $500 million in federal funding for mRNA vaccine research • Kennedy claimed this decision was based on a 'review of the science & produced a 181-page document containing the evidence which allegedly supported it • A careful analysis of this document by infectious disease physician Dr Jake Scott, shows that it does not substantiate Kennedy's case against mRNA vaccines & in many cases, contradicts its own framing • Dr Scott's findings are summarised below: • Some of the papers cited in the document are poor quality studies authored by anti-vaxx activists & discredited academics • Most of the papers are in vitro studies (which have limited clinical relevance) using SARS-CoV-2 spike protein (not the mRNA copy contained in vaccines) & thus do not show that mRNA vaccines are inherently harmful • Many of the papers refute Kennedy's position, showing that mRNA vaccines are far safer than infection with SARS-CoV-2 • Some of the studies used delivery methods which have no correlation to vaccination (e.g. directly injecting spike protein or mRNA into the brain tissue of mice) • The document wilfully misrepresents many of the studies, falsely equating the behaviour of SARS-CoV-2 spike protein (which lingers & multiplies for months) with the mRNA vaccine spike protein copy (which does not replicate & is typically cleared from the body within weeks) • The document misrepresents safety findings (e.g. grossly exaggerating the low rates of myocarditis associated with the vaccines within a narrow demographic, while failing to mention that SARS-CoV-2 causes myocarditis at far higher rates) • The document omits the largest & most recent safety studies & CDC data-encompassing >100 million vaccinated people—which show that mRNA vaccines are safe, effective & prevented millions of deaths
