Heard @lottiehoare.bsky.social present on Slade’s 1954 'Child Drama', found serendipitously on @ioelibrary.bsky.social's open shelves. The image echoes Slade’s theory and Hoare's use of #rhizomaticlearning. See #AltText. #LibrarianSky don’t overlook the value of older books on open shelves. #HistEd

Reading David Gillborn’s 'White Lies' (2024). His definition of white supremacy — a system where white dominance and entitlement are built into everyday life — isn’t new. We know this. But maybe that’s the problem. If it’s still shaping the world, maybe we should be talking about it more, not less.

Enjoyed presenting my paper at @ihr.bsky.social-ICHRE on the silences of #eugenics & #imperialism in teacher training, showing how selecting the 'right type' of student led to an elitism or what I call, a form of ‘teacher engineering, further de-democratising the profession #teachertraining #HistEd

Today's AI moment: While working on a presentation for doctoral students, Microsoft Copilot independently discovered my doctoral thesis, declared me an expert in the field, and then get all excited when I revealed it was actually talking to the author! 😄 #AI #AcademicHumour

It is with great sadness that we share the news of Sir Peter Newsam's death. He was director of the Institute from 1989 to 1994. The IOE Library, also called the Newsam Library, was his vision. See: blogs.ucl.ac.uk/ioe/2022/09/... and the obituary in the Guardian theguardian.com/education/20...
