I saw some AMA with a Ukrainian sniper who had served for like 10 years recently and he was saying his job increasingly has less and less purpose since small drones are more lethal and harder to detect

I'm confused-how is working as an editor at FP a stepping stone to ruling over an empire in Asia?

In defense of Stancil, he does live in probably the most successful Yimby jurisdiction (Minneapolis). Like many of the problems in question have been addressed to a meaningful degree in his area

Economists know there is only one enemy discipline and that's macroeconomics

Wasn't she like a really terrible administrator that sent agency morale off a cliff though?

Given that at this point crypto is largely traded off chain in centralized exchanges, and will likely never find a real use case, imo it is largely irrelevant

I think this tweet sums up Khan well. Imo she's a hack promoted by people who wanted a justification to say Amazon was bad for consumers. She strikes me as someone who would support the NYC 10k+ sqft special permit (which keeps grocery stores out of the city) cause it keeps out Walmart

In his defense, if I got a job as an economics reporter at America's most prestigious newspaper without any formal training in, knowledge of (and it often appears interest in) economics, I also would not place a high value on having any sort of understanding of the subject I was talking about

I went to DuPont Saturday night and saw 6 various fed officers hanging out on the corner of the circle and P St for at least half an hour. Also saw 4 more in circle itself standing around. One of the most pointless LEO deployments imaginable

Minimal viable product is the spirit-so not good but not harmful to the drink. In Italy, that would be like €6/btl wine, but in the US, usually works out at $10-15/btl. The real hiding shitty wine drink is the Kir which was created explicitly to make a bad wine harvest drinkable with Creme de Cassis

Most Americans get mad when they see "cHaOs At ThE bOrDeR" headlines, but they also don't like the morality of large deportations. They have no quantifiable preference to immigration level. I really think you could let 15 million people a year in if they all queued quietly and quickly found jobs

My personal theory of public immigration sentiment in the US is that people do not want to think about immigration, and the less they hear about it the happier they say they are with immigration policy. This applies to both immigrant entry and anti immigrant crackdowns.

The Revenant was huge. It made over half a billion and got meme'd to eternity. When was the last time you thought about that one?

This is the sort of "interest free product" (along with things like lease to own) you will see a lot more of with interest rate caps cutting credit card access

Always felt to me like target had a young, loyal customer base that would go for stuff like that. Ikea also does cheap fashionable furniture well imo. Target has very nice cheap flannel sheets too, like <$40 a set

I didn't know about the WW1 guilt. Was it kind of a biproduct of WW2 guilt? I personally don't put exceptional blame on the Germans for WW1. Russia, France, and Austria were all looking for the 1st available pretext to go to war too
