No matter what Jesus said in other parts of the bible, there are parts that had Yahweh telling people to execute gay people and wipe out other cities including infants. They worship that same god. I'm glad most Christians ignore the genocide, but it's still in there and it's a problem.

Chapter 1, homosexuality is an abomination and god commands you to rape and kill children. Chapter 2, Jesus says you should be nice to people.
Do you see how this is a horrible book? Just because there are some not so bad parts, it doesn't undo the condoning rape, slavery, and genocide in others.

That is the mental gymnastics I'm talking about. Yahweh told his people to wipe out entire peoples, killing even the infants. Nothing Jesus can say will undo that unless you are suggesting that Yahweh has the ability to grow and change his mind which goes against the idea that it is a perfect being.

It's problematic for every Christian. Having a book that says to treat people with compassion in one chapter doesn't negate saying it's ok to beat your slaves, execute people for being gay, and to wipe out entire cultures from history in a different chapter. The bible is toxic yet people defend it.

This argument is so dumb. Republicans are breaking the law to kill and starve Americans and some people are acting like the right thing for Democrats to do is give up the only power they have over this and vote for whatever funding bills Republicans put up and HOPE they will stop.

The government shutdown isn't what caused SNAP beneficiaries not getting food. They weren't getting food because Republicans withheld funding. When negotiating with a group that will starve people to get what they want, you can't compromise. If you give in, they will just starve more people later.

I think he is conflating tariff revenue and domestic investment "commitments" he has gotten from people like Zuckerberg where he just makes up a number that he thinks will make Trump happy in exchange for some future preferential regulatory treatment.

And also, if you are a young adult with no job, they don't want the government to give you any assistance whatsoever, even if you need medical care. Being poor, young, and unemployed and receiving help is apparently some sort of abuse of the government it their eyes.

Give me a break. Reading yahwehs command to Saul to wipe out everyone including the infants of Amelek in a different language doesn't change anything. It's a terrible text in every language.

Ok but calling the Bible a revolutionary work of love and forgiveness problematic when sections where the supreme being commands you to kill someone for homosexual acts and and instructs you to perform genocide, human sacrifices, and enslavement. It's a disgusting book with a few nice passages.

When the god, Yahweh, that Jesus said to love told his followers to kill all the people of a city, including the infants and animals, where was the love? Its great that there are a few passages that say be kind to everyone, but there are many more that say be cruel to those who are different.

I agree with your sentiment, but it is worth noting that slave states would have loved to count slaves as whole persons because it would have given them more representation. The free states were the ones pushing for slaves to not count for house appropriations (for good reason).
