In 1908, about 50 Sikh mill workers decided to build a gurdwara in Abbotsford.

The owners, the Trethewey family with links to KKK, donated whatever lumber they could carry on their backs.

So the Sikh men lugged the lumber from Mill Lake to the property site, an uphill trek of about 2 km.

Indigenous people make up 5% of the population of Greater Victoria but were involved in 17% of the Victoria Police Department's 1,685 use-of-force incidents between 2018 and 2023.

Black people were the subject of 3% of incidents, while they account for 1.3% of the population.

Racialized communities are often forced to be more dependent on 🚗 because of where they live. These barriers are far worse for Indigenous peoples.

Nearly one million people living in the eight largest 🇨🇦 cities were at risk of transport poverty, meaning they can't access or afford transportation.

The benefits of urban green space aren’t evenly spread among the populace. “Leafy” is an adjective often reserved for affluent neighbourhoods, and racialized communities are relegated to paved and sparsely planted neighbourhoods.
