We find that HIAs open access to carbon finance but also reinforce centralised state control.

This tension—finance flows down, authority flows up—raises key questions for carbon justice & community empowerment.

While lawsuits under Rights of Nature are few, the real power of environmental personhood may be cultural: shifting from an anthropocentric to an ecocentric worldview, inspired by Indigenous philosophies.
