Salary info isn't exclusive - job titles listed are the "most common" identified within the economic analysis that necessitated geoscience skills. There were 5,000+ job listings, some would also include geography, just not as many repeats - see the methodology on the website for more info here 📊

As for student numbers, you're right, (physical) geography is not included in these sections as we didn't have access to the data, and didn't have ~£6k additional budget to purchase the data from HESA, unfortunately. If someone has the data, we'd be happy to include it - there's an open call.

Where 'geology' is used in the report is when we are referring to the specific subject as identified by exam boards, not interchangeably with geoscience - consciously.

Part of the campaign is reframing that geoscience is far broader than these definitions, important when it's not the subject name!

We consciously chose "geoscience" to be more inclusive, and the AKAs in the video are to further explain what this is for those that might have heard of one of those terms (or studied it as GCSE and A-Level are called "geology" alone).

The @geolsoc.bsky.social team are busy building more careers profiles to highlight this diversity - we have 103 submissions so far to work our way through - and they'll be on the site in due course: www.thisisgeoscience.com

I'm curious, what made you think that non-geology subjects were excluded?

Physical geographers and hydrology are indeed types of geoscience, and #ThisIsGeoscience is designed to be inclusive - just as the @geolsoc.bsky.social displays with its Geoscience For the Future posters.

We've never done this before, and it's not an easy thing to do, so we would LOVE to see a great turnout of our #LGBTQ+ geoscientists & allies so that we can build on it and come back year on year! ⚒️
Join us before the parade, during, after... We'll be there for respite and fun from 10.00! ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🤎🖤
