I’ve been getting versions of this from admin for a while now. I’ve also had learning center professionals float the idea that AI is a solution to equity issues (“some of our students work and don’t have time for traditional approaches to research and writing”). It’s grim

Relatedly, a common artifact of AI assisted papers in the humanities is that the LLM suggest a thesis that includes a contested or theoretically loaded keyword (e.g., interpolation, assemblage) and the student writes an entire paper that never defines it (because how would they know)

Let students do real work that's related to your area of teaching. Don't set them up with gimmicks because genAI.

ended up muting that chatGPT assignment thing. it's patronizing to students. why not talk to them like human beings? but also if you ask people an instruction to find mistakes, they can use that prompt to find them in any source. as a species, we're great at motivated reasoning. that is not the way.

This isn’t a random question. It’s a vague question written in a way that pushes anyone who answers into a corner while allowing you to stand above the fray and scratch your chin

You’d think that after the Epstein thing journalists would stop bringing kids to grownup parties

Dude, nobody except for a few people at SparkNotes spend their days reading lots of stuff and turning it into straight English. There are no study guide factories

If anything it seems possible that this just wasn’t his crew… like, maybe he had a different squad of sexual predators from Arkansas that didn’t invite Ken Starr to their parties

I don’t think that’s particularly exculpatory… At best, you’re saying that the learning process didn’t fit with her schedule so went with what did

Totally. She could afford to go to law school (I’m sure Stanford could use a new wing on a library), but she figured she could just leapfrog the learning process. It’s like dedicating your life to curing cancer but insisting that all you need by way of education is a stint as a lab assistant

The road to hell is littered with what?

What the article didn’t report is that it’s the Barrel Strength, adrenochrome infused Makers. So we’re talking about expensive stuff here

Who’s going to claim Savage Dragon as their Cerebus?

A DC editor just saw this and they’re hastily rewriting the last issue

The thing is, i really doubt white Trump voters or their kids are feeling white guilt. They’re feeling a blow to their sense of self satisfaction and they find that intolerable
