The gun charge is usually a “tack on” crime and the tax issue is usually settled with the IRS (I.e. both offenses are rarely, if ever, tried as stand alone crimes), lending credence to the argument that these were only handled this way because it was Hunter. Therefore, I don’t take issue with it.

It's abundantly clear that the GOP is not going to start abiding by "conventional norms" just because the Dems keep taking the high road. Yet people keep holding the Dems to the "two wrongs don't make a right" standard while the GOP runs wild.

I mean, at what point do we stop holding both sides to different standards and asking the Dems to "play by the rules" when the GOP does whatever it wants and looks the other way when Trump nominates people who openly say they'll do whatever they want?

It’s reminds me of the Harriet Miers nomination as a smoke screen to nominate Alito fiasco all over again. Though that would require Trump to be savvy, which he isn’t. So, it’s probably just him nominating someone he knows will go after whoever Trump tells him to.
