Sharp lobed hepatica. Purple petals with white stamens in center Wild columbine - pendulous red and yellow blossoms- hummingbird favorite! Midland shooting star - down pointing center with upward petals. They always remind me of a badminton shuttlecock. Can be white, pale pink or pale violet. Wild hyacinth- similar to their European counterparts with somewhat fewer blooms per stalk. White petals with bright yellow pollen on stamens.

Giant swallowtail lays eggs on its Indiana native host plant- hoptree, a member of the citrus family!

👀 Look at this spectacular moment that Hollyn caught at the sale on Friday!! We saw it come in, a huge beautiful giant swallowtail butterfly. We joked that it had come for and was looking for its host plant, hoptree. And sure enough!! She went straight to them and started laying eggs! As our potted plants are beginning to go dormant for fall, we took the eggs home and put them on our much greener plants. These will hatch, hopefully become final instar caterpillars, and overwinter as chrysalids. Last round of butterflies, go! Want to see these kinds of interactions in your spaces? Woodland phlox, left. Foamflower, right. Red trillium, center background. Ostrich fern all around. Pink and showy Rose verbena is a ground cover that blooms for months.
