And then, a liberal-progressive majority in ‘35. The conservative SCOTUS majority would be able to frustrate Democratic reforms until then. That’s why expanding SCOTUS to 13 justices is what the Democrats should do when they have the White House & majorities in both houses of Congress in 2029.

This would seem good except that the 9 justices appointed before this act takes effect have active status for life. If the Dems are projected to retake the Senate by next June, expect Thomas & Alito to retire. If the Dems pass just this in ‘29, it’d not be until ‘33 that we’d have a tie court.

Under Khanna’s proposal, the president would appoint new members of SCOTUS in the 1st & 3rd years of his term. This new justices would have 18 years of active service & then a lifetime of senior status where they would only be on cases where an active member had to recuse himself.

Also, I’m for term limits for all federal justices & judges but you need a constitutional amendment to do that properly as you can’t apply it to current justices & judges retroactively by law only to new justices & judges. That’s the SCOTUS term limits proposal by Rep. Khanna. Details below.

Dems make things complicated. “If we expand SCOTUS, the GOP will.” Yes, if don’t help the people. The progressive policies of FDR & Truman kept them in office for 20 years & GOP Ike built on them. We need a liberal-progressive SCOTUS now! We only need 4 new seats. It should be job 1 for Dems in ‘29.

@piperformissouri.bsky.social, if the GOP tries to redraw congressional districts, use the referendum to block those districts from taking effect and put a constitutional initiative on the '28 ballot to have MO congressional districts drawn by an independent redistricting commission starting in '31.

Time got blowback in 1979 for naming Ayatollah Khomeini as Man of the Year. Last year, the persons who most influenced world events were the leaders of Hamas and Israel as the latter continues to kill Palestinians in Gaza but Time named pop music star Taylor Swift as Person of the Year instead.
