There's quote from Charlie Kirk that's making the rounds: "I can't stand the word empathy, actually. I think empathy is a made-up, new age term that — it does a lot of damage."

I completely disagree; empathy prevents damage and violence.

Talked to several friends and coworkers here in Central Texas over the past few days who said they didn’t get the emergency push notifications about flash floods, then later realized they’d disabled them all after the last ‘Blue Alert’ a few months back. Whelp. At least this one wasn’t at 4:30am.

It looks like the Musk/Trump administration is in the 'find out' stage with regard to the NPS, that is, that conservatives use and love the National Parks just as much as liberals do.

Years ago I had a dream that I was in a rap battle, but when it was my turn, the DJ played house music, and all I could do was dance around and go "wooo!" "yeah!" "unngh!" This reminds me of that dream, A LOT. Except that the crowd was booing and throwing things at me.

I'm taking a songwriting class featuring Brian Eno, and today he was talking about how the instruments in James Brown's "Sex Machine" fit together in unconventional but brilliant ways. He wanted to hear the parts in isolation, "so I Googled 'sex machine parts'... the results weren't very useful..."

An old friend and colleague posted this on Facebook. Don't entirely agree (and I'm obviously using BlueSky), but his overall point stands; it's important to consider the implications of every BlueSky post essentially being 'public'.
