Rhetoric like this has the potential to fatally undermine any broad antifascist front, and going forward, event organisers need to do more to make sure it is not given a platform.

I was however deeply troubled that the Palestine Solidarity Campaign representative chose to hijack the event, making a needlessly inflammatory and racist speech which called for 'dismantling of Israel'. She then led chants of 'from the River to the Sea'.

There were two very good speeches: from Bishop of Kirkstall Arun Arora, who recalled the words of Martin Luther King and Desmond Tutu as well as Leeds's antifascist history, and from TUC regional secretary Dave Pike, who spoke of the British labour movement's tradition of solidarity.

We think pretty soon but it all depends on discussions within government. I suspect the government will try to hold off until after the deputy leadership contest because it would draw attention to Bridget Phillipson in a way that would hurt her standing among the Labour membership.
