It was just a few years ago when the Senate Parliamentarian meant the Democrats couldn't have anything they wanted and the Democrats said "oh well" and took a three-day weekend. I'd say the country deserves what it will get, but the people who deserve it won't get it, and those who don't will.

The New York Times' imagined audience doesn't understand why these movements are aligned and buddy I don't know how to explain to you that people oppose the things they find morally intolerable and try to stop them from happening

What the fuck are we doing here, why is the core breakdown of the most fundamental pillar of "the government can't just disappear you because it feels like it" off in the corner while we give the top half of the entire front page to Trump versus Harvard

When people say "police state" this is what they mean - that there's no part of the government that is safe to interact with, any brush with any part of the state will be used against you

The world where D.C. police protect USIP is a world where the political entity that wants to destroy them (the White House) needs things from the political entity that created them (Congress). There's a reason we use the phrase "police state" when we talk about authoritarianism.

The easiest way to refute this is via the public statements of Israeli military and political leadership re: what they wanted to achieve in Gaza. Also, genocide has always been defined as attempts to destroy a group in whole "or in part." Provocation irrelevant, totality irrelevant.

Senate Democrats divided over whether to do the thing their supporters want, and be criticized by their opponents, or to do the thing their opponents want, and lose all their supporters while gaining nothing

I had to read this like four times to make sure I'm following. The House leadership says they could never support these cuts and is forcing Republicans to put their own fights on display, since they can't actually block it. The Senate *can* block it - so they won't. Wondering how we got here?

"We aren't in the majority, we don't have leverage" you have leverage on this. Republicans want and need your cooperation for this! THIS IS LEVERAGE! WHEN THEY NEED SOMETHING FROM YOU IS LEVERAGE I'm so tired and angry

One (1) tiny independent agency refused access to their offices and as a result has survived, protected their employees, established a clear position as to what authority is required to disband them, and has now put the whole thing into an official court record. You have to try! to stop them!

I just want to memorialize, before we all start finding ways to put this back into some smart-sounding narrative, that US foreign policy on one of the most significant armed conflicts in the world right now is currently driven by the President throwing a tantrum about not getting public praise

This makes me feel insane, it's like reading an article about a home inspector excited to really give the fitting a good look while the new owner is openly pouring gasoline on the support beams

With all of these Democrats 2-6 years out from their next election, please explain to me what they have to lose from obstructing rather than helping, and why I should read this as anything other than a reflection of earnest preferences for a more fascist, cruel and violent country.
