Fierce advocate for justice and science. We rapidly approach the intersection of multiple existential crises that will require radical simplification and de-growth ... justice and science are the only ways through.
Completely understood.

And no worries, clearly we've got this. 😂

Japanese researchers have kept meticulous data on cherry blossoms in Kyoto for 1200 years.

The 20-year average of these blossoms is plummeting as global average temperature increase accelerates.

The recent trend of Arctice sea-ice volume suggests it might not reach 20k km^3 by the April peak ... a record low by something like 2k km^3, or 10%.

Astonishing. Less than 2k km^3 total volume is in play for the Sept trough barring an anomolous decline in the rate of ice loss for May-Aug.

I had to say goodbye to this beautiful being today, and I am not okay.

But I'm so thankful I can still feel.

Yes, it is the most important geophysical record ever produced, if for no other reason than it informs the Keeling Curve, which tells us in unequivocal terms that human civilization is doomed and we collectively need to deploy radical adaptive measures yesterday.

Arctic Sea Ice EXTENT is troubling, but Arctic Sea Ice VOLUME is downright scary....

Exactly. How soon do we have an ice-free Arctic? Unknown.

How much incremental methane release do we see from more oceanic solar radiative absorption in the Arctic? Unknown.

Increased CO2 from increased boreal wildfire area due to increased temps due to the above factors? Unknown.

And on and on

Every true patriot in America this week can relate.

I think that if we exit May 2025 with less than 20k km^3 sea ice volume in the Arctic, then yes, everything is going to f&%k.

I keep revisiting the slope of this trendline for GLOBAL temps and it terrifies me.
