The MBAA XC race was fun today. The McDowells competitive loops for 20 miles. Weather was perfect, no complaints beyond needing to get in better shape 😞.

Did a 55 mile loop around New River in prep for the Great Divide MTB Route this summer. Had to stick some single track at Apache Wash in there to increase the positive vibes. The bike acts way different when it's loaded with the rack and bags, but it's something I get used to pretty fast.

Had some truly awesome fun this week. We almost didn’t go through with this activity, but curiosity prevailed and we had a blast! River Tubing Tour - Kaua’i Backcountry Adventures youtu.be/4jOcMUJOIa4?...

Started searching my pockets for quarters to see if this thing still worked until I saw THE GIANT KILLER SPIDER living in it.. it’s all yours bro..

#waimeacanyon in @kauai is gorgeous. Rising 4,000 feed above the ocean, it’s lush green forests juxtaposed against the red oxidized earth is fantastic. The Na’Pali coast is rugged and imposing. Can’t get enough of this place.

This is the kind of crap Elections Officials are dealing with on a daily basis.. how is this rhetoric acceptable to anyone?

I’m the destroyer.. this is my 3rd bike frame crack in as many years.. 2 aluminum and 1 carbon fiber.. luckily this one is still under warranty. Cracked on the seat tube above the weld.. which is the wild part. Normally it’s a bad weld that fails.

Blah.. riding along, minding my own business, when this jerk (razor blade shard) decided my rear tire was its new home. Instant flat and now I’m covered in tire sealant.. too close to home to justify a field patch job, so I called in a rescue.

Whoa now.. if you know the amazing battery life of a Kindle.. this is a rare thing to see.

Rode my Priority 600x to lunch and parked it outside the main lobby window. The manager hadn’t seen a bike with a transmission and belt drive before. He asked me questions about it for 10 minutes and brought two employees over to check it out. Pretty funny 😄. Bike Nerds.

At Rachel Maddow’s book signing and show. Interesting demographic of people here. Some drug along by spouses. Others are true Maddow groupies. We are the youngest people here though. Also, free book!

Almost topped out on the Arizona Trail just below Snowbowl. The aspen trees are phenomenal.

On the route again for Day 5. Luckily waiting out the smoke in a hotel payed off to clear skies. 32 miles and 2,400 feet of gain to go before it’s over.

Lake Mary was beautiful. More water than I’ve ever seen. The climbs were tough and the Verde River was wonderful for a cool refill for the hot Day 3 climb ahead.
October 17, 2023 at 3:57 AM
Day 5 incoming. 31 more miles with something like 2,400 feet of elevation gain. The climb up to Snowbowl to descend the AZ Trail back to Flagstaff will be rough as always.

Day 3 was a fire road from hell in 90 degree heat. Finally got into Williams just after sunset and we all crashed out hard. Day 4 was supposed to be easy and pleasant until the fire smoke started to make everyone cough terribly.

WOW, the terrain on this route was tough. Day 1 was rocks and punchy climbs that never ended. We got to our campsite in Sedona late. Day 2 was some significant bike issues in Sedona that ended up with acquiring a rental bike to continue. Then the road up and over Jerome AZ.

Looks like some rain storms against a nice AZ sunset… but nope, that’s smoke from prescribed fires and they plan to do more of them tomorrow.
October 17, 2023 at 3:46 AM
This trip has been eventful so far. 3 days of hard riding to Williams for about 150 miles total. Today, day 4, we woke to some prescribed forest burns, with smoke all over our route. We made it 40 miles and called it quits for the night. 32 Miles left tomorrow.
