FishSafe hydropower turbine engineering. Fish pass downstream unharmed, directly through the turbine. www.natelenergy.com
#Fishpassage at #hydropower plants is a reminder of what we can do when we integrate ecological restoration with infrastructure development. In order to sustainably achieve the #OurPowerOurPlanet goal of tripling renewables by 2030, we need to design #renewables that also protect #biodiversity.

Our #engineering team has developed proprietary simulation tools that allow us to accurately model #fishpassage survival as we create #turbine designs for specific plants, & in real-world studies, #FishSafe turbines have demonstrated 98-100% through-turbine survival for fish passing downstream.

One way that innovation can help us tackle #climatechange and #biodiversityloss is by rethinking & improving the ways that we produce & use #energy. At Natel, we engineer #FishSafe turbines to generate baseload power while protecting aquatic organisms, helping #hydropower work in balance w/ nature.

Modernizing with better downstream #fishpassage solutions, like Natel's #FishSafe turbines, allows #hydropower plants to reconnect #rivers and support #aquatic #biodiversity, while also helping to meet increasing electricity demands with emission-free, #baseload power.

One way to invest in people & planet is by upgrading existing #hydropower plants. Hydropower provides 24/7 #renewableenergy, but many facilities can disrupt #fishmigration and #river ecosystems.

According to the UN, more than 1 million species are at risk of extinction globally, and over half of the world’s GDP depends on nature. The theme of #WWD2025 is "Investing in People and Planet," highlighting the growing financial benefits to supporting #biodiversity conservation.

FishSafe RHTs are hydropower turbines designed to function as downstream fishways while also generating renewable electricity at competitive rates. FishSafe RHTs have demonstrated 98-100% fish passage survival for a variety of species in numerous peer-reviewed studies.
