That's just when they drop "Sure, but what if my children are exposed to lemonade?"

Disgustingly this is a feature, not a bug. No form of content moderation will ever, ever be effective, so platforms simply design them to be completely overkill so that creators pre-emptively censor themselves to avoid the risk

I am unclear (perfectly clear) why it's cool to illustrate fictional murder but not fictional SA

It is optimized — for consoles. Sadly 30fps at 1080p (with DLSS) is now "working as intended"

Very sad to hear anyone missed the point so broadly. Did they not wonder why a film about children going missing is titled "Weapons"?

Thanks so much for this, wasn't aware of this series and it's fascinating

I had always wondered why you alternate between long A and short A seemingly at random

Yes I'm sure the term limit is the one rule they will respect, not like all those other ones

This is why I insist that to be a true remake, FF7 Rebirth should have had The Thing happen to Tifa instead. Being blindsided was part of the experience

As far as I've heard he isn't dead. Presumably he'll pull through, based on how everything else is going

I'm torn on Hard Games™ because I believe in accessibility but also many people just lack faith in their ability and would find a rewarding experience if they were encouraged (constructively) to persevere. I forgot Bloodborne at a friend's house and his mom played through it with a guide on her lap

I'm sorry Mask Taster has ended my life

Yeah for sure, there's nothing inherently bad about the platform, it's just so popular and accessible that it gives normal people a look into hardcore communities that previously would have been hidden away in forums

Pretty much. I think Reddit has just gained a reputation for being full of socially inept nerds who only want to argue and antagonize, especially in communities based around popular media. Of course there are lots of cool people too, but as always they get drowned out
August 29, 2025 at 12:10 AM
I think it's just that people who join online communities for their interests have built part of their identity around that interest. They can't just quietly enjoy it, they need to be seen enjoying it (more than you). These people are filtered out in follower-based ecosystems, no such luck on Reddit

Is that title art by the excellent Jakub Rebelka?
August 27, 2025 at 6:35 PM
Exactly. Separation of product and value is the root of most evil in the world, and all enshittification. Valve is one of the few major companies that doesn't have people at the top saying "make number go up" with no idea what they've actually invested in

I bet that's because when we anthropomorphize things we're volunteering empathy for them. Things designed to appear human are more like invasive parasites exploiting our empathy to manipulate us. It should trigger a defensive instinct in anyone who values their survival

Imagine finding a way to use computers to avoid paying people for work and then having to pay the computers instead
August 26, 2025 at 3:45 PM
Probably simpler and more depressing than that: screen time given to male characters is time they could be spending on significantly more marketable/exploitable female characters. When your target demographic is isolated men you want as many chances as possible to feed them their new waifu

This is just back door "good old days"-ism designed to pull young people to the right. "Look at what they took from you". Easy for white people to be nostalgic when life was worse for basically everyone else

I guess it's intended to add some of the tension of permadeath while solving the problem that losing your progress to something brand new always feels shitty. On paper it's pretty good design giving you one chance to learn and strategize before tackling a new problem for real.
