Miss Major was a black transgender activist who has fought for over fifty years for trans rights she is veteran of Stonewall Riots and a survivor of Prison and Bellevue Hospital’s “queen tank.” Her global legacy of activism is rooted in her own experiences. She is gone at 78 may her legacy live on.

When the media fails to cover certain stories, it parallels the act of banning books that narrate our experiences. One is documented in writing, while the other is conveyed through storytelling.

Both actions not only suppress marginalized voices but also withhold history, information, and knowledge, thereby controlling what people are permitted to learn. This is not isolated to one side this is an ongoing widespread issue that has not dissolved.

Media failure equivalently to banning books to discuss issues of oppression faced by minority groups that challenge mainstream perspectives. Through censoring literary to censoring reporting of stories is an attempt to limit visibility and recognition of marginalized communities and experiences.

These individual acts of hatred are not only singular acts of unspeakable violence It is the direct result of a collective failure to address systemic hatred and deep seated discrimination. Because the crisis facing trans people is not limited to acts of terror, it is institutional.

This crisis is transphobic language and policy. It is the dehumanization, discrimination, and prejudice that gives birth to fear and to shame. It is the crisis of a culture that normalizes and administers that shame

And this crisis is a crisis of silence. Silence in school, at work, in our neighborhoods. It is the silence that happens when any act of discrimination or bigotry goes unchallenged.

we must address the many other challenges that disproportionately impact transgender people from closing disparities in employment and wages that undermine economic security to improving access to safe, affordable housing and removing barriers to quality, affordable health care.

We know that violence against the transgender community, and black trans women in particular, is not new

The American Medical Association has called this crisis an "epidemic of violence against the transgender community, especially the amplified physical dangers faced by black trans women.
