While there are certainly very real issues with trafficking among migrant kids (primarily labor trafficking, as @hannahdreier.bsky.social has documented), the Trump admin's new effort seems aimed primarily at producing deportation orders, not in "protecting" children as they claim.

So that's really the overarching context here; an explosive OIG report that identified genuine failures but whose content was blown massively out of proportion and taken out of context is now the impetus for a new large-scale ICE operation aiming at people who entered the US as unaccompanied kids.
