I hasten to add her school is fantastic at encouraging reading in all other aspects - kids are encouraged to share books they like, plenty of daily reading time, class voting on the class reader, a fab school library. She’s a student school librarian now!

Yes this. The pressure my daughter got at school when she went into y4 that she should instantly switch to the 9-12 section nearly killed reading for her. Thankfully our local kids library does not sort books by age category and letting her loose in there was a godsend.

My kids’ school is bussing them there and back so I have opted to stay at home. I’m sure they’ll have a great time without me.
