And the real lesson is critical thinking and questioning authority and things like that. It helps you understand how systems form and how our constructs are actually fragile and formless. And then the realization of how sad it is to get stuck inside level one and never actually begin moving past it.

So in some ways it’s like a starter religion. It gives you stories to shape your morals and teach you empathy and compassion. Then as you learn more about it you deconstruct the useless and damaging parts like hell and purity and all that. Then at some point you look back and realize you left it.

I decided to plant my own garden instead of hiring the work out. And I’m eating the delicious fruition of that right now. And I will eat it later. Because I planted it. It’s right now, and it’s mine. Not later.

So when someone says to me “god has an amazing plan for your life and I can’t wait to see it come to fruition”, it comes off more like “I think you should change”. Or “you’re not quite there”. It rarely comes off as the cheer-up it may be intended to be.
