Clinical trial findings are often simplified into a binary conclusion, focusing on a P value of less than 0.05 for a treatment difference. However, a more nuanced interpretation requires examining the total evidence.

#statistics #stats Reading QQ plots is not easy at first. I can relate! But don't give up just because it's hard. Everything is hard until you know it and suddenly it becomes your daily tool. Practising and mastering QQ plots (and CDF, BTW) isn't a waste of time! Below I show a few examples.

When is the t-test appropriate?

▶️ In short, the t-test is needed when P values are required and there are no nuisance variables to control for nor covariates to adjust for.

In practice, having no nuisance variables/covariates to adjust for is relatively rare situation.

Following the demand of several bioinformaticians, we developed a training program: Statistical Analysis of Metagenomics Data in R.

Metagenomics data possess specific features that call for adapted statistical methods.

▶️ What's the problem?
▶️ Using confidence intervals
▶️ Inconsistency in language in reports
▶️ Recommendations
This paper is NOT only relevant to CTs, its scope is much broader.

🗃️ Who is in this study, anyway?

💡 Table 1 & Usefulness
In biomedical research papers, Table 1 shows demo & baseline variables of the study population. Used for assessment of whether the groups differ wrt characteristics.

Who is in this study, anyway? Guidelines for a useful Table 1
Epidemiologic and clinical research papers often describe the study sample in the first table. If well-executed, this “Table 1” can illuminate potential threats to internal and external validity. However, little guidance exists on best practices for designing a Table 1, especially for complex study designs and analyses. We aimed to summarize and extend the literature related to reporting descriptive statistics.
