For men like Trump, it's never enough if there's more to be taken. PUTIN is one of the richest men in the world. If you don't think Trump would love to top Putin then you don't know Trump. Tariffs are merely one means to accumulate power.

A port city, a steel cage, a palace: The steps that made Putin 'the richest man in the world'
Russian President Vladimir Putin's journey to become perhaps one of the world's richest men began early in his political career in St. Petersburg

Of course he doesn't 'need' it.

Using tariffs against trading partners and using the collected revenues for domestic favor are not mutually exclusive. Both are a form of capturing administrative power. I think your issue was the term 'war chest' but I meant it to be historically accurate regarding authoritarian governments.

Yes, if you don't care at all about the deficit. But new tariffs are new federal revenues. I don't understand why you're arguing otherwise.
November 30, 2024 at 5:28 PM
I said "Tariffs bring more revenues into the Federal gov't for his admin to use." Tariffs are certainly a source of federal revenue. With a favorable congress, can be appropriated for tax cuts, favorable contracts etc. Increases his administrative power greatly, hence the term war chest.

Tariffs are revenues the GOP can use for tax cuts or other donor benefits. They never care about implications on lower/middle class Americans. Tariffs build a war chest and also serve as a method of rewarding friends and punishing enemies at tax-payer's expense. Follow the money.

The real point of the tariffs: Bring more money into the federal gov't for his admin to use. He doesn't care if it's inflationary or deflationary to the people. Tariffs build his war chest at the expense of the American taxpayer - Another grift. Follow the money.

Hello, Bill - Can you clarify what's in "Northwest" line item? Is it just the larger Seattle/Bellevue/Tacoma metro area, or does it include more of WA state? For example, does it include Vancouver, WA? Or is that included in the "Portland" line item as it's commutable to Portland?

Glad to see you here, Walter!
