I unloaded on them with some very colorful examples of how poor of a choice this would be

After the first threats from the administration, probably the first three or four monthly meetings between our Canadian and US teams were filled with jokes like "I guess we won't have separate charge codes based on countries soon" and "maybe y'all can negotiate us using metric" and it was so tiring

My take away was that I need a bigger living space because I never considered that I could have my own mass spectrometer

Also for anyone that feels that going out of my way to make a soda accurately and precisely from scratch might be a bit much has never met me

I'd tried it with some other colas (mind you I very very rarely drink soda, often it's just been those four cokes every year) but nothing had that consistency

So here we are: a recipe that I can make myself and is very standardized and close enough to the original that I won't have to change much

At the start of every year, I'd buy a four pack of Mexican Coke and drink them under controlled conditions, referencing my notes from prior years

With the company's embrace of AI and their long time shitty labour and ethical practices, I hated this "necessary" evil, but I viewed it as critical

3. Finding an equivalent to an eye or hearing exam for taste is challenging. Complex consumables change taste from region to region and season to season, even if made by companies that have standardized recipes

Due to these reasons, ages ago I opted to embrace Mexican Coke to test my palette

1. I value my ability to taste things accurately so I can be consistent in the food I make

2. We naturally shift in our ability to taste as we age and as our diets change and it can be hard to discern these changes as they happen gradually (except for some instances like reactions to covid)
