Musk’s endorsement of President-elect Donald Trump and reduced content moderation policies have driven many academics, journalists, and public figures to migrate to Bluesky. High-profile users, including EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, have joined the platform in recent weeks.

The European Commission stated Bluesky has not disclosed details about its legal establishment or user numbers within the EU, as required by law. The platform, opened to the public in 2024, has seen a sharp rise in users - up to 300%, in November alone - following dissatisfaction with X.
