This makes me think of the parable of the Elm and Vine in Shepherd of Hermas. The Elm represent the poor because they are the true spiritual power and standard, to whom the wealthy (the vines) need to bind themselves if they want to bear fruit.

Everything I see of Trump makes me sick!
How do people not see that he is setting himself up as a tyrannical dictator as full authoritarian! He literally said here: "do what I want you to do, or I'll replace you!"

I'm having the same dilemma about going to Chicago in May (for NAPS). I'm probably going to take the bus, feels safer.

Thanks for the reminder about AAR/SBL btw...haven't yet checked the CFP, not sure if there is any good Patristics stuff though.

My paper is moreso on what Augustine did with the chapter than the chapter itself (Augustine's Tractates on John 44).
Basically he Allegorically takes the ex-blind man as symbolic of humanity on a three-stage journey to Christ (blind, anointed, baptized).
