I sort of understand why people are a bit apprehensive about 90-100% RE grids in that the technology that enables it is rapidly advancing that if you aren't paying attention it can be easy to miss. But why are they so confident that what's already happening is impossible?

Well that's a terrible idea, research is the main driver of the Australian economy and a major reason our otherwise developing country style resources extraction economy can sustain our relative wealth.

These subs were designed for nuclear weapons and second-strike capability. Why would Australia ever need that capability?

We only need relatively short-range subs to patrol our local waters and defence partners, not to project power across the world.

Yeah, I would be far more celebratory about Liberals deciding to never form government again, if Labor wasn't out there putting in as many loopholes as they can for fossil fuel exporters into all their legislation

Insane! China's demand is already dropping; Europe will not be far behind.

Sitting on the power line are three large black birds, with grey curved beaks and white cheek spots.

Hey this is good, but is there any plan to get low-income homes off gas boilers/heaters and into heat pump systems?

It definitely feels like it. Gen X has really struggled to make any political headway. We have had "boomers" holding on forever in the USA, with 70-80-year-olds throughout Congress.

I wonder if the fall of the USSR and the rise of China are part of this somehow.

I see you have muted the thread.

Barnaby had a community sentiment survey that anyone could fill out, one of the questions was "Do you agree that CO2 is necessary for life?"

I had that issue with @hannahritchie.bsky.social's book as well. I wasn't whatever the target of that book was and now I am starting to think maybe no one was?

Back when I was dealing with the WA EPA, around Scarborough Gas project. They said they couldn't use climate change because there was no state target. I pointed out that, to protect the environment emissions must fall so the target is "less than last year".

The absolute refusal to accept that climate change has a significant impact on the environment tilts me.
