Longer wrap-up to come, but in the meantime: we had a fantastic and productive time at the napari hackathon at @globias.bsky.social 2025 conference! Thanks to all the participants and to the GloBIAS team for hosting us!

Contributing to open source can be scary, but don't worry! We ourselves often write code where the initial implementation is not the best, but we are here to help simplify life. Want to know more about contributing or have anything else napari you want to discuss come join our community meeting!

Like what you see?

Our own Lorenzo Gaifas is working on multichannel grid mode which is to replace our current grid mode. If you want to come discuss this or other things, join us at the community meeting tomorrow May 7th, 5:30PM CET | 8:30AM PDT

As a final treat, here's a video of napari 0.6.0 browsing a gorgeous 88Mp image from @noirlabastro.bsky.social (noirlab.edu/public/image...)

@czaki-pl.bsky.social has made huge improvements to the Shapes layer, supported by a grant to the Spatial Data team by @cziscience.bsky.social. We've launched a *fast* triangulation library written in Rust (called bermuda 😉), making Shapes up to 200x faster! Read more: napari.org/stable/guide...

Axis praxis! You can now point the depth, vertical, and horizontal axes any which way! We've fixed the handedness of the 3D view — DNA helices are again right-handed 😅, and if you have map data you can make latitude point north. Check out our new guide!

0.6.0 features @liu-hanjin.bsky.social's command palette. It exposes all commands registered with the napari app-model (app-model.readthedocs.io/en/latest/) — including plugin commands! We now go to an exciting new phase for napari plugins — see discussion at github.com/napari/napar... for a teaser!

BIG change since 0.6.0a1, the culmination of months of work: we've made major improvements to triangulation (splitting polygons into triangles for drawing on the GPU), resulting in up to 200x while improving accuracy. We can now accurately draw South Africa with its enclave Lesotho.

Hello all,
Hopefully the last community meeting now before 0.6.0 lands 😅 This has been a lot of hard work the last weeks by multiple people! Want to discuss the release or have any napari questions for core devs or want to show a cool demo? Come join tomorrow! Details below

Did you notice that cool new camera parameters menu? That and other right-click menus are easier to discover thanks to new core dev (!) @timmonko.bsky.social — check the little indicators! *And*, check the cute new canvas dimensionality toggle! And did you notice view angle is preserved now? 😉😍

What do structural biologists and atmospheric scientists have in common? They care which way their axes point! In napari 0.6.0, we finally default to a right-handed reference frame in 3D. But don't panic, we also let you customise axes directions from the API, UI, or startup preferences!

Thanks to @liu-hanjin.bsky.social, napari now has a command palette! 🎨 This thing is really nice to use — the core team can no longer live without it — and it even works with plugin commands! 🤩

Our Atlantic community meeting is tomorrow, April 9, 5:30PM CET / 11:30AM ET / 8:30AM PT.

This time among others we will discuss bringing the web to napari (see the very rudimentary initial example below)!

Another community contribution! Taking screenshots of regions of interest has been made a lot easier with help of our community member Sesan Ajina! Here, a code example: napari.org/dev/gallery/...

Soon, more on how we are making publication ready figures easier with help of our community members!

Gearing up for our 0.6.0 release, it is time to look back on some of the awesome features implemented by contributors of the community since 0.5.0.

First off an awesome contribution by GitHub user #beanli161514 to enable 3D picking with the perspective camera with a very nice example!

Please hold while we ready the 0.6.0 release… 😅
