It is one year today that Sheikh Hasina’s foot soldiers shot Abu Sayeed pointblank in Rangpur.
His killing sparked the escalation of the protest movement into a (successful) uprising against the authoritarian Awami League regime. 🇧🇩🇧🇩🇧🇩

Dog people, beware the grass seed! Poor Truffle got one in his eye on Sunday and now has a damaged cornea. It’s a very dangerous season

This is why there is no international aid to feed starving children - our taxes are paying to train the people starving the children

What I’m reading after @empirepoduk.bsky.social on the Irish famine. I had the Colm Toibin book in my famine collection, but hadn’t got to it for some reason. It’s horrible. Everyone should read it.

London friends, please join @davidbergman.bsky.social and me at the Frontline club on March 12 for a screening of & discussion about two very powerful forensic films about the violence against protestors in Bangladesh last year.

I’ve been writing and talking about Zainul Abedin’s famine sketches - I only ever found one from 1974 in the archives. And then my bestie (he’s rich and an art collector) says, I’ve got one of those. And it was right there on the wall in front of my face.

This is where Abu Sayeed was killed in July in Rangpur in Bangladesh. I will never get over what he did and what they did to him. He’s become a national icon. A 6 year old made me a clay model of him, complete with blood spatter. The trauma recirculates through the generations.
