I wrote about my five days in Israeli prison for the LRB. Remember with every paragraph that this is the cosseted version of the experience; it is infinitely worse for Palestinians www.lrb.co.uk/blog/2025/oc...

The Irish language is in an all-time underfunding crisis, with Gaeltacht housing ever more unaffordable and record secondary school exemptions. Rather than lowering our expectations, we need to fight for Irish and for everyone’s chance to access it m.independent.ie/opinion/naoi...
Naoise Dolan: We need to create an Ireland where everyone can become fluent in Irish
On a grassroots level, it could not be clearer: Irish people want to learn Irish. An island-wide Údarás na Gaeltachta study found last year that 74pc wish to improve their level.

Apartheid, genocide and colonial occupation showed themselves out of the World Sailing Conference in Dún Laoghaire today due to the actions of ordinary people. We can win when we stop waiting for our useless government to stop supporting Israel and simply do it ourselves

Bíonn na daoine seo ag caint faoin nGaeilge mar a bheadh comhartha stádais inti. An fhírinne ná gur mionteanga í, agus nach bhfuil muid ag iarraidh ach na caighdeáin chéanna agus an meas céanna a thugtar d’aon teanga eile

Lots of flotilla people at today’s blocking of Dublin port. We sailed not as a once-off gesture, but to build on it with direct action at home. Israel does not care what we think; the only way to impact the situation is by directly challenging the blockade and disrupting the flow of money and arms

Pandering to the far-right is both dangerous and ineffective. We already know from Germany, France and the UK that it only legitimises fascists. We need a positive alternative vision instead m.independent.ie/irish-news/p...
Naoise Dolan: Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil’s lurch to the right on immigration will only create space for fascists to thrive
The message seemed clear from Catherine Connolly’s landslide presidential victory: ordinary Irish people want a robust new vision, not a bargain bin version of far-right talking points.

At some point someone is going to get killed, and Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael’s response will be to bicker over who’s faster at deporting people (who were forced to leave their country by EU imperialism in the first place)

Mass descent to block Dublin Port this Sunday. The genocide will continue for as long as it’s profitable, we need to shut down trade to see any change

For context we were seeing death tolls like this on the worse days in September, when anyone with any sense was up in arms about it

It’s almost like colonial occupation is inherently violent and the word ‘ceasefire’ is meaningless as long as it’s in place

Naoise Dolan: Catherine Connolly’s victory won’t fix our many woes, but it is a sign the tide is turning
The first time I saw Catherine Connolly speak was at a Palestine protest in Dublin in May. It was lunchtime outside the Central Bank and perhaps 30 people were there.

In RnaG interview, the principal of a Gaelscoil a 10-minute walk from Citywest talks about how students there reflect the diversity of the local community. It’s almost like the people claiming Irish is elitist are talking out their dtóineanna www.rte.ie/radio/podcas...

Is éacht thar barr é gur ceist shuntasach toghcháin í an Ghaeilge anois. 3% a cheap gurbh í an cheist ba thábhachtaí, i bpobalbhreith a chuimsigh gach ábhar. Ní hamháin Kneecap, ach An Dream Dearg, an Mórshiúl Gaeilge, agus roimhe sin an GCSG a chas an taoide. Ar aghaidh linn

Catherine Connolly committed to learning fluent Irish in 2004, well into adulthood, after regretting not being able to do a live interview with RnaG. Then she actually followed through. How is it ‘elitist’ to expect the same thing of a literal Minister of the Gaeltacht

Will this be enough to get the ‘think of the poor dogs in Gaza’ crowd to care that the ceasefire is not a ceasefire
October 22, 2025 at 7:30 AM
Irish-speakers didn’t get a proper presidential debate because Humphreys chose (again) to run for an office she’s not qualified for. Nobody cares ‘how Irish’ anyone else is, stop projecting! The issue is language rights

'Protective presence' of international observers isn't working anymore in the West Bank. Between this and the flotilla, Israel is responding to the near-total clarity from Western governments that they will protect empire and capital above human lives www.vashtimedia.com/protective-p...

In the West Bank, activists struggle to make a dent in Israel's impunity.

This averages out at a violation roughly every four hours, around the clock, continuously since 10 October. At what point do we stop calling it a ceasefire when Israel has just literally not ceased firing
