If you’re looking for a palate cleanser during these stressful times, watch Flow. Such a beautiful film. (Although I have to admit some of the underwater scenes totally stressed me out. Amazing how invested I was in that cat’s survival!)

Did you know Biden’s DEI policies (including Executive Order 14035—one of many DEI-related EOs dating back to LBJ that Trump just rescinded) include protections for veterans and military spouses? I’d love to see more news coverage of this, esp in light of Trump’s repeated claims he’s “pro-military”

RIP writer & cartoonist Jules Feiffer, illustrator of The Phantom Tollbooth, who died last week (01.17.2025) at age 95. I was lucky enough to meet both Feiffer & Norton Juster in 2012 when they were on tour for The Phantom Tollbooth 50th anniversary. Here’s my childhood copy, signed by both of them

So *now* CNN is suddenly describing the Biden economy as “healthy” (body text: “the US economy is broadly in good shape as Trump takes power”)? And yet before the election, according to CNN, the economy was terrible & article after article described how Americans were “struggling”? Which is it CNN?

Finally had a chance to watch Conclave last night. Ralph Fiennes was the perfect choice to play Cardinal Lawrence. Excellent movie, but as always the book had so much more depth. Robert Harris is one of my favorite authors. Another one of my favorites of his is “Pompeii.” Highly recommend both books

Trip down memory lane seeing My Neighbor Totoro at the theater today. Our sons loved watching this movie when they were little tykes. Brought back lots of happy memories, and seeing it on the big-screen helped us appreciate Miyazaki’s artistry even more.

Me: I’ll just tie string around the roasting pan so the cats don’t get into the turkey while it’s cooking overnight...
Cats: As soon as she goes to sleep we’re breaking into this motherfucker

Happy Thanksgiving BlueSky 💛🧡🤎

While browsing thru the bookstore recently this caught my eye—1979 was the year I graduated from high school. I love it when I come across a book I know nothing about, take a chance, & end up enjoying the hell out of it. Looking forward to reading the follow-up (1989) by crime writer Val McDermid.
