Update from Project B. Does this mean the New York Times was wrong about who backed this league?

From the Kenyan front pages. East Africans are allowed to work in each others countries without work permits and there are many Kenyans employed in Tanzania who are now stuck and facing significant backlash from the state that is framing “foreigners” as instigators of election unrest.

What heartbreak. One of the most useful apps ever created.

I’m struggling to see the balanced squads y’all are talking about. Breeze has no vets and their only PG hasn’t played since July/August. Plus they’ve never played together. Meanwhile 4/6 of the Mist have played together (through Arike). #wnba

If you’re in Nairobi, displaced youth from Sudan are hosting a fundraiser for mutual aid groups in Darfur on Saturday November 8th. Lumin is a great community space ran by displaced youth from Sudan and Ethiopia and they have great coffee and tea. Tell your friends to tell their friends.

Devastating.

92 year old Paul Biya has been declared the winner of the presidential election in Cameroon. Leaders of the opposition have been arrested, protests have been violently suppressed and the internet has been shut down since last week.

Hundreds of Kenyan youth have been lured to the Russian frontline in Ukraine with promises of work, visas and pay in exchange for fighting for Russia. Others were told they would be going to Russia for higher education only to be sent to the frontline.

Natasha Cloud, The People’s Champ. She’s taking responses over on the bad place but if you’re in the USA let your people know. #wnba

Completely unprecedented use of social media in ongoing events in Madagascar where embattled President Andry Rajoelina claims to have dissolved parliament through a decree posted on Facebook. The closest equivalent I can think of is Erdogan’s live-streamed rejection of an attempted coup.

How you get it is how you lose it. Rajoelina came to power through a coup, stayed in power though a series of questionable elections. #Madagascar

I think low key I’m annoyed because Vegas was in no way the best team this season and even through the playoffs. But there is clearly something to be said for peaking at the right time and knowing how to close games which you absolutely have to give them credit for. I’m just being churlish. 😂

I know some of you don’t like seeing posts from the other place but this is important and many of the people who were on the Flotilla do not have a presence on Bluesky.

Lorenzo D’Agostino is one of the journalists who has been covering the illegal pushbacks of refugees in the Mediterranean Sea. If you know something about these pushbacks it is in part because of work he has done. This is his account of his detention and capture on the Global Sumud Flotilla.
