The reality is, there's no truly anonymous push notifications if you go through the main providers. Use a background service like Signal on Android if that is a key concern. But, ultimately, it's the data publisher taking on the greatest risk, not the subscriber.

Notifications on both iOS and Android through the primary methods, APNs/FCM, are basically equally as private. For both, the developer must maintain a subscription ID which links the device to the developer. Both also allow you to roll your own push service with no interaction to Apple/Google.

Between the misinformation about Android security and requiring usage of the most closed-off, account-mandated ecosystem, I don't like this from an OpSec perspective. Unless the source is made available, you're putting full trust in the claims of a fairly unknown author.
