In academia, the arts and humanities—arguably the disciplines that help us think critically, morally, and compassionately about the uses of science—have been systematically and ruthlessly devalued and underfunded to the point of extinction. Scientists should speak up against this.

I am a non-scientist in love with science but utterly horrified by the tech that is dooming the world. Science is only a good if it is used for good. Too often science has enriched the few at the planet’s and humanity’s expense. I believe this is where the distrust springs from.
